Born on December 5, 1951, in Xenia, Ohio, to David Leon and Jane Thomas Durnbaugh, Jerry’s life was grounded in family and faith from the very beginning. On August 14, 1971, he married Mary Booker at Anutt Victor Baptist Church in Anutt, Missouri. Together, they built a life rooted in love, trust, and shared values. In 1977, the couple settled in Springfield, Missouri, where they raised their two children, Jason and Sarah, instilling in them the same values of integrity, devotion, and joy that guided his own life. Jerry’s love extended further to his cherished grandchildren—Avery, David, Nathaniel, Eliana, and Caleb—who were a source of immense pride and happiness for him.
Jerry was a man of many gifts. As a master mechanic who retired from Diesel Exchange in 2017, he was respected for his expertise, dedication, and the patience with which he shared his knowledge—most notably with his son, Jason. Yet those who knew him best will remember not only his skill but his infectious sense of humor, constant smile, and playful spirit. A bit of a jokester, Jerry could light up a room with laughter and find joy in the simplest of moments, whether dancing, admiring antique IH and John Deere tractors, or spending time with his beloved animals, including his horse, Dusty.
Above all, Jerry’s life was defined by his faith. His devotion to the Lord guided his actions and inspired those around him. He lived his life reflecting the love of Jesus, openly sharing his faith and striving to embody compassion, humility, and generosity in all that he did.
